Bruce Scott

Bruce grew up on the family sheep and cropping property at Muckadilla, and after completing his secondary education at the Anglican Church Grammar School in Brisbane, worked on the family property and large pastoral properties in western Queensland around Kynuna, Stonehenge and Augathella. During six months in the United Kingdom and Europe as a Nuffield Farming Scholar, Bruce studied European Common Agricultural policies, the Wool Industry Research and Development, markets, livestock and arable farming practices.

1990 – 2016 Bruce was the Member for Maranoa and served as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (4 years), 5 ½ years as Minister for Veterans Affairs and Assistant Defence. 2002 was the Australian Parliamentary delegate to the Autumn Sessions of the United Nations in New York and in 2015 was the Australian delegate to the 800th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta at Westminster, London.

Prior to and after his parliamentary career, Bruce was President of the Maranoa Graziers' Association (3 years); served on the Executive of the United Graziers Association Queensland; joined the Queensland Board of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) in June 2016; became a member of the RFDS Risk and Compliance Committee, and Chairman of the Fundraising, Marketing and Community Engagement Committee. That same year saw Bruce appointed to the Board of the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame and Outback Heritage Centre in Longreach.

2017 saw his appointment as Co-Chairman of Telstra’s Regional Advisory Council for Queensland. In 2018, he was appointed Chairman Southern Queensland Natural Resource Management now trading as Southern Queensland Landscapes, a position he was re-elected to in 2019. Bruce holds the position of Executive Member of Natural Resource Management Regions Queensland; Honorary Life Member of the RSL Australia, the RSL Queensland Western Districts; Stanthorpe RSL sub-branch; Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF); Roma Show Society; Queensland Merino Stud Sheep Breeders’ Association (QMSSA), and is Patron of the (QMSSA) and the Roma History Lodge.
