Restoring and Connecting Landscapes to Protect the Currawinya Ramsar Wetlands

Supporting land managers to manage weeds, pests and restore landscapes to enhance wetlands and floodplains across the Lower Paroo River, protecting the Currawinya Ramsar Wetlands and adjoining properties for sustainable agriculture and nature positive outcomes.

About the Project

This project aims to reduce key threats to the Currawinya Ramsar site and contributory wetlands and priority areas of the Eulo Supergroup of the Community of Native Species Dependent on the Natural Springs while building resilience to climate change and extreme events.

It is a $2 million dollar investment from the Australian Government through the
Natural Heritage Trust – Panel of Regional Delivery Partners program.

Collaborating with public and private land managers, First Nations, technical experts, local government and community to enhance the ecological integrity of priority landscapes through addressing key threats including feral animals especially feral pigs, invasive weeds, soil loss and erosion and unsustainable land management practices.

Strategies include a combination of targeted pest and weed control, rehydrating and restoring degraded landscapes, livestock management, groundcover management and appropriate use of fire.  Through ongoing monitoring and adaptive management, the project seeks to have lasting positive impacts to meet the needs of biodiversity and sustainable agricultural production.
